 UF Chemistry Network Registration

Attention!!!!
The chemnet wireless network is for the moment designated for Chemistry Dept faculty, staff, post docs, graduate students and invited visitors only! If you do not have an @chem.ufl.edu email address and you need to use our network, you MUST enter something in the "Notes" section of the form explaining your affiliation and how long you will be here.

Why Register?

Chemistry has historically operated an "open" network, meaning anyone could simply walk in, plug a computer into an available network jack, and have full network access; no questions asked. In response to UF security directives and to provide for greater accountability, we are transitioning to a "closed" network whereby all computers and network devices will need to first be registered before given full access to the network.

While introducing a new process to capture this necessary information, our goal is to simplify these procedures so that they do not become an undue burden on, nor adversely affect our user's productivity.

Registration Procedures

All UF owned and personally owned computers, printers, and other devices, that will be located on the Chemistry network, must be registered on this site in order to gain access to the network.

Each registered device is assigned its own unique static hostname and reserved IP address. Once registered, the reserved IP address assigned to your device will work on any wired network jack within the three buildings of the Chemistry complex: Leigh Hall (LEI), Chemistry Research Building (CRB), and Chemistry Lab Building (CLB). You may freely move it from jack to jack within those three buildings.

Attempting to use a device on the network with an unregistered or "borrowed" IP address is strictly prohibited. Deliberate violations will result in a permanent ban of that device from the network.

For faculty and staff who have entered a work request to have a new computer setup, the IT Shop staff will peform initial setup and security tasks for your computer then guide you in completing and submitting the Chemistry Network Registration Form.

After you have registered your computer on the network, you should update your registration information if the computer has a major repair that affects the built-in ethernet; you add a wireless card; you make a major change in the operating system; or you move to a new office. Do not use the network registration form for updates. Simply email the new information to the IT Shop staff (support@chem.ufl.edu) being sure to specify at least one piece of information that can uniquely identify this computer in the network database: the wired ethernet hardware address; network name; or assigned IP address.

Network Registration Form

Use this form to registration your computer for use on our network. You will receive e-mail notification once the registration form is reviewed and the network registation process is complete.
